Not everyone was able to skip out of work early Wednesday. At Analtech Inc., also in Newark, all 18 employees stayed to the end of the day at 4:30 p.m., with the die-hard Phillies fans jumping into their cars and driving home to catch the disappointing end of the game.

But before the whistle blew, they never missed a pitch.

Analtech general manager Steven Miles joined his employees earlier in the day, setting up radios throughout the office. They also streamed the game online.

The business, which manufactures glass plates for forensics and medical laboratories, didn't miss a beat, even though plenty of employees had their minds on the big game.

Inside Miles' office, which has a photo of the 1993 Phillies taped to the front door, a few employees were huddled around the computer when the Phillies scored their only two runs of the day. Fists pumped in the air when Aaron Rowand hit a home run to open the fifth inning. As Pat Burrell stepped up to the plate, Miles said, "C'mon, Burrell. We need a back-to-back!"

A minute later, "Home Run" flashed on the screen and the quiet office burst into cheers. "Didn't I call it?" Miles asked incredulously.
